Public Utility Guarantee: Free Access for All Residents
In accordance with our statutory commitment as an Association loi 1901, every workshop, gathering, and concert scheduled below is 100% free of charge to the public. All operations are funded via municipal grants, departmental subsidies, and voluntary civic action. All membership dues are fully reinvested into public interest cultural activities.
Accessible Ground-Level Cultural Initiatives
Our programs are designed to activate public spaces and empower community members through collective musical practice.
1. The Saint-Martin Community Vocal Choir
Every Tuesday evening, the communal foyer of Saint-Martin-de-Caralp opens its doors to our foundational choral collective.
This collective is the central heartbeat of JEM LA YE. Under the patient guidance of volunteer choir conductors, participants embark on a two-hour journey through physical relaxation, breath mastery, vocal resonance placement, and multi-part choral singing. Our repertoire draws from rich regional Occitan folklore, international secular folk polyphony, and contemporary poetic compositions arranged specifically for amateur voices.
There are no entrance examinations or vocal tests. Participants range in age from 16 to 84, uniting students, rural craftspeople, agricultural workers, and retirees in shared artistic purpose. By listening to adjacent voices and adjusting pitch collectively, singers cultivate profound empathy and ensemble intuition that reverberates throughout community life.
2. Acoustic Instrumental Accompaniment Circle
Held bi-weekly on Thursday evenings, this ensemble brings together amateur instrumentalists to craft acoustic accompaniment for our choral repertoire.
We welcome classical guitars, folk guitars, violins, violas, cellos, accordions, flutes, and hand percussion instruments (cajons, tambourines, shakers). Led by experienced volunteer musicians, sessions focus on rhythmic discipline, dynamics, acoustic balance, and delicate accompaniment phrasing that supports rather than overpowers singing voices.
To ensure economic equality, the association maintains a small repository of acoustic guitars and rhythm instruments made available on loan to participants who do not own their own instruments. Through collective experimentation, participants develop performance confidence and experience the thrill of live ensemble accompaniment.
3. "Voices Across Time" Senior & Youth Outreach
Our specialized outreach program visits retirement residences (EHPADs) and rural senior clubs to deliver interactive memory-and-music afternoons.
Music has an exceptional neurological ability to awaken memories and emotional vitality in elderly individuals experiencing dementia or physical fragility. Our field volunteers bring printed large-font songbooks of historical French melodies and local Pyrenean songs, encouraging residents to sing along, clap, and share recollections associated with each melody.
Whenever possible, we coordinate these visits with local school groups, pairing young students with elder residents. These intergenerational moments dispel loneliness, cultivate mutual tenderness, and remind our elders that they remain deeply cherished members of our civic family.

How to Participate in Free Events:
For weekly rehearsals and open public concerts, simply arrive 10 minutes before the scheduled time. No prior registration or ticket reservation is required. If you require specialized accessibility assistance or sign language interpretation, please contact our secretariat at least 48 hours prior so our volunteers can prepare appropriate accommodations.
Field Venues & Territorial Accessibility
JEM LA YE is committed to ensuring that physical disability or limited mobility never prevents an individual from attending our cultural events. All municipal venues chosen for our 2026 schedule feature step-free ground-level access or certified wheelchair ramps. Accessible sanitary facilities and designated disability parking bays are guaranteed in cooperation with local municipal police and technical services.
In addition, our volunteer transport network coordinates carpooling arrangements from remote hamlets (including Ourdenac, Le Roc, and Montoulieu) for seniors and residents without private vehicles. If you require carpool assistance to attend a Tuesday rehearsal or weekend concert, notify our secretariat.
